Overview

Under the direct supervision of the Director, the Sports Coordinator supervises staff in general sports operations with specific focus on leadership of the assigned program. Coordinates clinics/practices/games, rosters, schedules and staff. With approval from the Director, recruits, hires and trains staff and provides supervision at program times, as assigned. The Coordinator must demonstrate and interpret positive values and have direct leadership experience working with children and adults. They must be able to be a team player, be a positive role model, and fulfill responsibilities in accordance with YMCA philosophies and goals, as well as the Y Way to Play campaign. The Coordinator will communicate and work with a variety of people: children, parents, and staff and have knowledge and understanding of the assigned program; and have skills in office administration, data organization and time management.

 

Salary starts at $14.81 per hour. In addition, we offer a +10% differential for staff who work the opening shift and another +10% differential for bilingual staff who test as fluent in Spanish and English.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, plans, organizes, implements, supervises, and evaluates all youth, teen, and adult sports programs, staff development and site maintenance
  • Create and implement new programs that meet the needs of the community and the goals and objectives of youth and adult sports programs
  • Creates a relationship with parents, participants and community partners that promotes strong communication and involvement in the YMCA
  • Organizes and attends appropriate training events and meetings for each season
  • Recruit and train volunteers and ensure volunteer requirements and certifications are completed
  • Set up facility for games, practices, special events, officiate and supervise gyms
  • Represents the YMCA in a professional manner at all times
  • Attend association events as assigned by Program Director(s)
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent
  • Certifications: CPR, AED, Basic First Aid certification and Emergency Oxygen
  • Computer and strong written and verbal communication
  • Must possess knowledge of rules of a variety of sports and a willingness to learn other sport fundamentals as necessary
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with staff, volunteers, members, and the community
