Overview

The Health Officer works directly with the behavioral specialist team and with our camp nurses to provide the highest standard of care at camp. The Camp Health Officer provides leadership, direction and supervision to staff and program participants in the residential camp experience. You will organize and implement high quality health services for YMCA Camp Tumbleson Lake residential camp programs.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees all health services provided to campers and staff members to fulfill YMCA objectives.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
  • Directs, schedules, trains, and coordinates Camp Nurses on a weekly basis. Works directly with behavior specialists to provide high-quality care.
  • Lives in a cabin and/or yurt accommodation at camp.
  • Reports directly to the Community Engagement & Registrar Director.
  • Works closely with the Senior Camp Director, Registrar Director and leadership team to coordinate health services as needed.
  • Coordinates camp nurses and frontline staff members as needed to meet specific healthcare needs of campers, including the distribution of medications and medical treatment.
  • Maintains the medical supply inventory, and orders necessary supplies through approved providers.
  • Manages and implements the approved budget for medical needs and takes appropriate action to correct variances.
  • Maintains and organizes medical documentation with accuracy, including injury and illness reports and medication administration reports.
  • Attends all required staff meetings on time.
  • Reviews and evaluates camp medical procedures.
  • Assists with Colorado State licensing and inspections, Health inspections, ACA preparation and visitation.
  • Adheres to program standards and expectations including safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Models’ relationship-building skills, and MESH (mental, emotional, social health) skills for campers and staff.
  • Problem solves, communicates, and documents camper behavioral issues as they arise, and passes them off to leadership staff members as needed.
  • Incorporates the mission, philosophy, and 5 core values of the YMCA of Northern Colorado in all communication with participants and staff-members.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of YMCA issues and records.
  • Maintaining friendly, professional relationships with staff, participants, and community members.
  • Practices positive guidance and preventative discipline techniques with natural consequences.
  • Required to attend and complete staff meetings, trainings, and all mandatory licensing required trainings.
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
  • Attends required abuse risk management training.
  • Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
  • Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 21+ years old.
  • Must have a minimum current NREMT certification or above.
  • Must have a valid US driving license and clean MVR.
  • Previous experience working in a clinical or preclinical setting, including a camp setting, is required.
  • Completion of: Medication Administration Delegation, Child Abuse Prevention Bloodborne Pathogens, and CPR/AED.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Experience in overnight camp or licensed youth programs preferred.
