Overview

YMCA Camp Tumbleson Lake is seeking a planning and programmatic expert to coordinate our ropes and climbing programs at our overnight and day camp nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains near Boulder, CO.

 

Our Adventure Ropes Coordinator is responsible for planning and implementing high quality and fun experiences through top-roping and our ropes courses. The Adventure Ropes Coordinator is expected to create, lead, and perform in front of all of our camp community providing a genuinely authentic, extra special experience for campers. They lead our Adventure Ropes Instructor staff team of 10-12 instructors.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, develops, and schedules a team of 10-12 Adventure Ropes Instructors. Reviews and evaluates staff performance and effectiveness.
  • Supervises and coordinates with Assistant Ropes Coordinator
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
  • Supervises resident and day campers, including climbing programming such as rope courses and top roping, to meet the needs of the camp community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
  • Reports directly to the Groups & Retreats Director.
  • Collaborates and works with other coordinators and staff members as needed.
  • Oversees the use of all ropes and climbing equipment, including inventory, and reports any defective equipment or maintenance needs to their supervisor.
  • Lives in glamping tent accommodations, including with camp counselors and campers as needed to provide ratio. 
  • Assists with other programming, including all-camp activities and mealtimes, as needed.
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all campers under their supervision, including maintaining appropriate staff to camper ratios as required.
  • Models’ relationship-building skills, and MESH (mental, emotional, social health) skills for campers and staff.
  • Problem solves, communicates, and documents camper behavioral issues as they arise, and passes them off to leadership staff members as needed.
  • Incorporates the mission, philosophy, and 5 core values of the YMCA of Northern Colorado in all communication with participants and staff-members.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of YMCA issues and records.
  • Maintaining friendly, professional relationships with staff, participants, and community members.
  • Practices positive guidance and preventative discipline techniques with natural consequences.
  • Required to attend and complete staff meetings, trainings, and all mandatory licensing required trainings.
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
  • Attends required abuse risk management training.
  • Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
  • Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 21 years old.
  • One to two years related experience preferred.
  • Must have a valid US driving license.
  • Completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff, Staff Training, WFA, CPR, AED, Bloodborne Pathogens, ACCT Training.
  • Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Current Lifeguard certification or be willing to obtain it during staff training.
  • Experience in resident camp preferred.
  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
