Overview

Our Camp Nurse is directly responsible for the health and care of our campers. They will organize and implement high quality health services for YMCA Camp Tumbleson Lake residential camp programs with the help of the Camp Health Officer. The Camp Nurse provides leadership, direction and supervision to staff and program participants in the overnight camp experience. The Camp Nurse works with the directors, leadership team, and frontline summer staff members to plan and facilitate all health, medication and first aid needs for the camp population. The Camp Nurse provides an atmosphere of respect, acceptance and caring for campers and staff members.

 

This position requires you to live at camp. Room and board are included. Our Camp Nurse is provided with a private bedroom and private bathroom in the health center at camp. Plus, we are able to offer your campers the opportunity to attend Camp Tumbleson Lake at no cost while you serve as our Camp Nurse.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the camp health center and all health services on a weekly basis to meet the needs of the camp community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
  • Reports to the Health Officer for schedule and break purposes.
  • Works closely with the Overnight Camp Director, Day Camp Director, and Community Engagement & Registrar Director along with the behavioral specialists as needed.
  • Lives in the health center accommodations.
  • Assists with resident and day camp check in and out, including checking in medications.
  • Coordinates and implements the distribution of all medications for campers with the support of the Health Officer.
  • Oversees the medical treatment of all camper and staff illness and injuries.
  • Maintains accurate medical documentation for medication and medical treatment.
  • Communicates with camper families as needed, over phone, email, or in person.
  • Delegates medication administration to frontline summer staff who may be responsible for administering medications away from camp, or lifesaving medications on site.
  • Assists with Colorado State licensing and inspections, Health inspections, ACA preparation and visitation.
  • Models’ relationship-building skills, and MESH (mental, emotional, social health) skills for campers and staff.
  • Problem solves, communicates, and documents camper behavioral issues as they arise, and passes them off to leadership staff members as needed.
  • Incorporates the mission, philosophy, and 5 core values of the YMCA of Northern Colorado in all communication with participants and staff-members.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of YMCA issues and records.
  • Maintaining friendly, professional relationships with staff, participants, and community members.
  • Practices positive guidance and preventative discipline techniques with natural consequences.
  • Required to attend and complete staff meetings, trainings, and all mandatory licensing required trainings.
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
  • Attends required abuse risk management training.
  • Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
  • Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 21+ years old.
  • Registered nurse in Colorado with a current license or higher preferred. LPN minimum.
  • Must have a valid US driving license and clean MVR.
  • Completion of all training provided during onboarding.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
